Parnagian Honored With The Prestigious Mentors Award

Fresno, CA— Longtime League member Dennis Parnagian (Fowler Packing Company, Inc.) received the Mentor’s Award on Monday, March 22 at Carmel Valley Ranch, during the California Grape & Tree Fruit League’s 74th Annual Meeting, March 21-23.

Mr. Parnagian is the President of Fowler Packing Company, a position he assumed in 1980. Fowler Packing (based in Fowler, California) was started by Mr. Parnagian’s father as a small fruit packing business and today is one of the largest tree fruit operations in the state that grows, packs and ships tree fruit, citrus and table grapes. Mr. Parnagian has not only worked hard in continuing to build his father’s business but he has also devoted countless hours in representing the industry through committee and board service.

Mr. Parnagian was Chairman of the California Grape & Tree Fruit League during the 1992/93 fiscal year, and served on the League’s Board of Directors from 1982 to 2007. Today, his son, Justin, serves on the League’s Board of Directors and represents Fowler Packing Company. Mr. Parnagian’s involvement in the fresh produce industry has not been limited to the League. Mr. Parnagian has been a Board member of the Peach Committee and an alternate to both the Nectarine and Plum Committees, all of which are sanctioned by the Reedley-based California Tree Fruit Agreement (CTFA). He also served on the CTFA Control Committee Board and the Tree Fruit Reserve. Additionally, he served for a number of years as Vice-Chairman of the Shipping Point Advisory Committee by appointment of the California Department of Food & Agriculture, and Chairman of the Compliance Subcommittee which is also sanctioned by CTFA.

“Dennis has been a strong advocate for California agriculture and over the years he has welcomed countless lawmakers and regulatory officials to his ranches and packinghouses. Dennis represents an individual who has not only made a commitment to ensuring the long term health of this industry but has lived it. We are fortunate because of Dennis’ tireless efforts to maintain a domestic food supply for our families,” said Barry Bedwell, President of the California Grape & Tree Fruit League.

Some of his civic activities include: Boy Scouts of American Sequoia Council Executive Board, and Fowler Unified School District Board of Trustees (including three terms as President of the Board).

Mr. Parnagian has been married to his wife, Donna, for 40 years. The couple has three grown sons.

The Mentor’s Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the fresh grape and tree fruit communities through their leadership in the industry.
