President's Message

Friday, March 18th 2016

CFFA President,

Welcome to the California Fresh Fruit Association’s website. We hope you find the information here valuable and we encourage you to contact us with any suggestions or questions.

CGTFL President, Barry Bedwell

This weekend in mid-March will mark the kick off of the California Fresh Fruit Association’s 80th Annual meeting and more than 275 individuals will gather in Newport Beach to hear from renowned speakers and to enjoy time with their fellow members. Our annual meeting is a traditional time for our supporters to gather at world class locations in California to look forward to the upcoming season for the thirteen permanent fresh fruit commodities we represent. We will hear reports from our outgoing as well as incoming Chairman in regard to the state of the industry and the state of the association. We will hear detailed information concerning the many challenges that production agriculture faces in California and how our organization helps manage this change for its members. As a sample of what will be discussed, we will hear about proposals connected to groundwater management, irrigated lands water quality, plans for water infrastructure development, removing the 60 hour work week for agricultural workers, efforts to  raise the minimum wage (again), opening up new markets overseas for our members products and many, many more such issues. As you can see, the annual meeting is a time of enjoyment but also one of serious reflection as well. The fact is that our association is truly blessed with growers and shippers that actively participate in the issues and challenges that confront them. They are true leaders who understand the value of cooperative action for the benefit of all in our membership and for California agriculture. Our Board of Directors and committee structure allows the association to identify the most pressing issues and to properly allocate staff time and resources for the best possible outcomes.  In summary and reflection, the 80th annual meeting of CFFA confirms what the organizers had in mind for such an organization and one that continues to show real value for its members.  We look forward to representing our membership and working with other associations for the overall benefit of California agriculture. Thank you for visiting our site and we sincerely hope that you will visit again soon.
